He'd help me flee from mischief or he'd help me be the cause.
Encouraged me in triumphs, walked with me in my woes,
Together laughed and slew a thousand phantom monster foes!
As we grew, our efforts moved from thoughts of misbehaving
To mystic arts of love and dates, deodorant, and shaving.
Oh yes, sometimes we argues, but today I'll only yell

Dads
Rhyme #1a: Cheeky & light-hearted
Being a Dad is not easy. There’s challenges that you must face.
There’s bums that explode, there’s blood (and it flows!), and all this you’ve got to embrace.
Being a Dad’s not for sissies. You’ve got to be brave and be bold.
Coz before you know it, statistics will show it: your children will grow to be old!
Now Dad, you’re an excellent Father. Just look at the children you’ve raised.
You’ve got dadding down-pat. Here's a slap on the back! Boy you deserved to be praised!
So this is a “celebrate you” day, where we tell you how grateful we are.
Though we sometimes are brats, you’ve still got our backs. Dad we think you’re a star!

If there was a father’s test, then my dad would be the best.
An expert when a baby poos, can heal a cut, a scrape, or bruise.
Whether guns or cars or fishin’, you know, or are, the best technician.
Life’s challenges leave you unfazed, which leaves the rest of us amazed!
And now your kids are all grown up, they see: dad didn’t know; he made it up!
My dad’s so clever - if I may skite - even when he's wrong, he’s right!
I bet to be a dad is tough. Nobody’s perfect; you’re close enough.

Rhyme #2a: Light-hearted and nostalgic
From the time you were a baby you wrapped your finger round my heart.
I loved everything about you: when you’d laugh and when you’d fart.
Fast-forward now these years and look! Near a woman fully grown!
All the world is at your feet and you rule it from your phone.
Even though you’ve ditched the pigtails, and are no longer easily riled,
I still see in your twinkling eyes my mischief-making child.
You will always be my princess, whether joyous or forlorn.
I will always help when you go out to catch a unicorn.
I’ll still search underneath your bed for monsters hungry for your heel,
and still pretend I see one, lurching back to make you squeal.

So what I’ll do today instead (after, of course, I’ve made my bed)
is bring you toast that’s barely charred and pancakes with sweet lumps of lard,

Uncles are like grown-up brothers, big as dads and kind as mothers.
They smuggle you forbidden sweets, and if parents squawk, Unc takes the heat.
They serve a meal of cookie dough, and let you watch the scary shows.
They never mind if you stay up late or chastise you for what you ate.
Uncles make you laugh to tears, and comfort you through all your fears.
Uncles are your not quite dads, but close, so I would like to raise a toast:

You’re always hanging out for lunch, or going to get a drink,
And leaving all your dirty dishes sitting in the sink.
