Some Surprises We've Done

People are worth celebrating.

Stu's Big Day

A bbq to remember

The day was all about celebrating a big number. Not a gigantic number but not single digits either. Stu was looking forward to a summer day spent relaxing with family. Stu's wife was looking forward to something different. She had prepared two surprises: a party, and us.

We arrived as instructed, and the get-together was already happening just over the fence. Clearly, everybody thought the 'surprise' part of the birthday was now over. Casual chatting and the sounds of general mingling gave some cover to our approach. Still, we couldn't set up a photo opportunity without giving ourselves away. We would just have to hope someone else took some great shots.

Our music began and the chatting halted in place. Our entrance spawned the surprise of all guests and the mischievous smile of Stu's wife. Stu himself padded straight towards us, grinning delightedly. He continued grinning through the songs, the birthday message, and a final hoorah where we enticed all present to sing with us.

The poppers popped and the partiers applauded. During our exit we played again, listening to the laughter and merriment on our way out. The crowd was now buzzing ...and so were we!

We organised the happy birthday people to surprise a work colleague at our mid winter Xmas do - they were excellent - great fun, read the room and delivered a great performance. Thanks heaps :)” - Jo N.

Jaxin's social-distanced 16th

Who invited covid??

Sweet sixteen turned a smidgeon sour when Jaxin had to spend it in self-iso. As far as his health, he only presented as low energy - thank God! Still, covid is covid, and any hope of hanging with mates was dashed.

The morning was passing at a snail's pace when the sound of trumpet and guitar breezed in through the sliding door. One of Jaxin's little brother's turned, his ears perking up and brow quirking down. Determined to solve the mystery, he marched outside. It must have been quite the shock to see him wheel suddenly around and race back inside, announcing the arrival of musical intruders.

The birthday boy was soon outside being showered with song, party poppers and large pieces of paper confetti. It turns out social distancing puts a stop to many things, but even covid can't stop you from giving music and joy. (At least, he was smiling a second ago. You'll have to take our word for it. Definitely a teenager.) :D

I organized The Happy Birthday People to surprise a dear friend on a special birthday and I was well impressed with them from the minute I contacted them. They were fun and delivered a warm performance that will be remembered in the years to come. Thanks again Jo & Marcus! !” - Sandra S.
